The Derby Panthers will square off against the Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Derby has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with 15 straight defeats, while Bishop Carroll will come in with three straight wins.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Derby's offense. They lost 8-0 to Andover on Tuesday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop Carroll). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Southeast an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Ethan Cox looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Bishop Carroll got a massive performance out of Jonah Mull, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, Mull posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Harrison King was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.
Bishop Carroll kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.
Bishop Carroll's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average this season. As for Derby, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Derby came up short against Bishop Carroll when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 5-0. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
