Hillsboro is 10-0 against Gillespie since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Hillsboro Hiltoppers will head out on the road to take on the Gillespie Miners at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Hillsboro focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Hillsboro came up short against Civic Memorial and fell 58-51. Hillsboro has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hillsboro's defeat came about despite a quality game from Jace Stewart, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That was a full 41.2% of Hillsboro's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Matoush, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Gillespie waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past East Alton-Wood River 63-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Gillespie has posted since December 9, 2023.
Hillsboro has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season. As for Gillespie, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-17.
Hillsboro barely slipped by Gillespie when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 70-69. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hillsboro since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
