The Lincoln Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Burrillville Broncos at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lincoln is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Lincoln's offense. They lost 9-0 to Toll Gate on Wednesday. The game marked the first time this year in which the Lions were not able to get on the board.
Lincoln saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annika Sampson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Burrillville never got on the board in their matchup last Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Davies Career & Tech last Thursday. They blew past the Patriots 15-3. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Burrillville got a massive performance out of Samia Shakan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. Those doubles marked the first that Shakan has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Carter, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Burrillville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Davies Career & Tech only posted an OBP of .278.
Burrillville's victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-6. As for Lincoln, they now also have a losing record of 5-6.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lincoln has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .480. However, it's not like Burrillville struggles in that department as they've averaged .504. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Lincoln's way against Burrillville in their previous matchup last Monday, as Lincoln made off with a 13-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
