Mentor and St. Ignatius are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Mentor Cardinals will look to defend their home field on Friday against the St. Ignatius Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Mentor has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 217 points over their last five matches.
Mentor can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They breezed by Euclid at home to the tune of 48-12. Given Mentor's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Euclid is ranked 349th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mentor's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Scotty Fox led the charge by throwing for 217 yards and four touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes. Gino Korzunowski was another key contributor, rushing for 108 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Meanwhile, St. Ignatius had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged Clarkson N out 24-21.
Mentor's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.4 points per game. As for St. Ignatius, their victory bumped their record up to 2-8.
Mentor couldn't quite finish off St. Ignatius when the teams last played back in August and fell 16-14. Can Mentor avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
