5A Special District 3 recap October 22, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 5A Special District 3 this week, Ashland beat Willamette 34-20. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Grizzlies.
North Eugene fell to Churchill 47-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Chad Gillam was a bright spot for the Highlanders, as he ran for 84 yards in the defeat.
Brenden Nesbitt threw for 262 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 14-17 with 0 interceptions.
Christian Johnson made the biggest impact on defense this week as North Eugene fell to the Lancers. The 5-foot-10 senior grabbed 1 sacks.
Darrius Jackson was the best receiver in the league this week as the Wolverines lost to Ashland. Jackson tallied 8 receptions for 133 yards. Geoff Kastel helped Willamette's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 73 yards.
Willamette's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Wolverines feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Kosey Mitchell has thrown for 1,124 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Jackson has 27 catches for 540 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Eagle Point takes on Charlie Hall's team. The Eagles are currently in third, while the Grizzlies are in first.
