There's no place like home for the Heartland Lutheran Red Hornets, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Thursday. They blew past St. Edward 49-15 at home on Friday. Heartland Lutheran pushed the score to 37-12 by the end of the third, a deficit the Beavers had little chance of recovering from.
Heartland Lutheran found their leader in underclassman Ella Francl, who scored six points along with 18 rebounds and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Carly Niemoth, who scored 12 points along with four blocks.
Narali Irineo and Leilani Vargas certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Irineo scored five points along with two steals, while Vargas scored a point along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Irineo grabbed two or more steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Edward struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Heartland Lutheran racked up 14 assists.
Heartland Lutheran's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for St. Edward, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-15.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Heartland Lutheran will take on the Bluejays at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Elba focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Monday. As for St. Edward, they will be playing at home against the Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverside is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
