5A Mid-Willamette recap September 17, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to South Albany, who defeated 94th ranked Lebanon, 21-0. Michael Schmidt ran for 127 yards during the win.
Silverton's Max Wilson rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A Mid-Willamette this season in his game against Dallas last week. Wilson scampered for 82 yards on the play and finished with 196 on the day as his team topped the Dragons.
Crescent Valley's dynamic duo of Tanner Sanders and Caleb Smith proved to be unstoppable against West Albany, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Sanders threw for 244 yards and 2 touchdowns and Smith had 112 yards receiving. Court Hammond helped Crescent Valley's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 31 yards.
The Raiders' dynamic duo of Sanders and Smith proved tough for the Bulldogs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Sanders put up the best numbers through the air as Crescent Valley fell to West Albany.
Jake LaCoste was a beast in the backfield as Randy Nyquist's team topped Scott Sanders' team.
LaCoste was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 277 yards on 31 carries as the Bulldogs fell to the Bulldogs. Cody Washburn also contributed to the rushing game with 30 yards on the ground.
Gabe Kerlegan was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Rebels beat the Warriors. The 5-foot-10 junior.
LaCoste was a passing and rushing force as West Albany bested Crescent Valley. LaCoste's favorite target this week was Andrew Ketelson, who caught 5 passes for 43 yards.
He was 17-30 with 1 interceptions.
Smith was the best wideout in the league this week as the Raiders fell to the Bulldogs.
Crescent Valley's Sanders and Drew Kell have formed a dream team this season, leading 5A Mid-Willamette in both passing and receiving yards. 6-5 quarterback Sanders has thrown for 639 yards this season, while Kell has 11 catches for 245 yards. Wilson from Silverton leads the league in rushing with 548 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Corvallis takes on John Mannion's team. The Spartans are in sixth place, while the Foxes are in first place.
Corvallis was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to sixth in the league. Chris Mcgowan's team beat Woodburn 63-13 earlier in the week.
