The West Florida Jaguars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Rutherford 65-28. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points West Florida has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, West Florida had strong showings from Amani (AB) Bartholomew, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, and Jakya Brewton, who scored nine points. Bartholomew has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played.
It was another big night for Shakirah Edwards, who scored 15 points along with eight assists and seven steals for Rutherford. That's the first time this season that Edwards posted eight or more assists. Ayonnie Houston was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
West Florida has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Rutherford, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 16-1.
West Florida will be playing at home against Pine Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pine Forest presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than West Florida in Florida (Pine Forest is ranked 79th, while West Florida is ranked 209th). As for Rutherford, they will head out on the road to take on Ribault at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Ribault focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Saturday.
