Mountain View is 9-1 against Kuna since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mavericks will host the Kavemen at 6:30 p.m. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Mountain View is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Eagle, who was ranked 12th at the time (Mountain View was ranked eighth). The Mavericks blew past the Mustangs 12-1 on Thursday. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Owen Perry spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits.
At the plate, Mountain View let Seth Hecox and Preston Flournoy run wild. Hecox went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Flournoy went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Hecox has posted since back in March. Cooper Schneidt was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mountain View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Kuna's offense. They came up short against Middleton on Thursday, falling 12-0. The loss continues a trend for the Kavemen in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost four in a row.
Kuna saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Rasmussen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Mountain View is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Kuna, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11.
Mountain View was able to grind out a solid victory over Kuna in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 4-1. Do the Mavericks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Kavemen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
