Basketball Recap: William Owens Key Part of a Team Effort in Knights Win

Mishawaka Marian won the last time they faced South Bend Washington and things went their way on Friday too. The Mishawaka Marian Knights strolled past the South Bend Washington Panthers with points to spare, taking the game 66-51. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Knights' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Panthers are ranked 32nd).

Mishawaka Marian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from William Owens, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 boards. Owens' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Prescott Horvath, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.

Mishawaka Marian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Bend Washington only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

South Bend Washington's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Steven Reynolds, who posted 14 points and four blocks. Reynolds has been hot, having posted two or more blocks the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Burgin, who put up ten points in addition to five boards and three blocks.

Mishawaka Marian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 33.2% in those games and 22% outside of them. As for South Bend Washington, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-3.

Mishawaka Marian will square off against Penn at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mishawaka Marian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season. As for South Bend Washington, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-64 win against Crown Point on the 1st.
