Winning is just a little bit easier when you nail five more threes than your opponent, a fact the Sipsey Valley Bears proved on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 57-31 margin over Greene County. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Sipsey Valley has managed all season.
Sipsey Valley found their leader in underclassman Cornelius Brown, who scored 12 points along with three steals. Brown also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Colin Warren was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Despite the loss, Greene County had strong showings from Michael Gibson, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Ronald Wilder Jr., who scored nine points along with ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Wilder Jr. pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessie Pelt, who scored three points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Greene County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Sipsey Valley now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Greene County, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-9.
Sipsey Valley won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against West Blocton at 7:30 p.m. on December 8th. West Blocton has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 306 points over their last four games. Greene County and American Christian Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. American Christian Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Greene County in Alabama (American Christian Academy is ranked 141st, while Greene County is ranked 440th).
