Wellsville has gone 8-1 against Hornell recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Lions will be playing at home against the Red Raiders at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Wellsville's favor as the team sits on 19 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Hornell has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
Wellsville's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Cuba-Rushford 16-0. Considering the Lions have won nine contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kennedy Perry made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Makenna Dunbar was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Ayla Faulkner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Wellsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Hornell came up short against Bolivar-Richburg on Friday and fell 5-2.
Izabella Gardner made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Hornell's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Wellsville, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.
Hornell's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wellsville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. It's a different story for Hornell, though, as they've only averaged .201. Will they be able to contain Wellsville's hitters?
Wellsville took their win against Hornell when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 18-0 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
