Nipomo is 8-1 against Cabrillo since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Titans will head out on the road to square off against the Conquistadores at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Nipomo is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 52-0 win over Santa Maria. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Titans had established a 45-point advantage.
Nipomo's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adam Ortega, who rushed for 117 yards and three scores on only 13 carries. Nick Evans also helped out as he racked up 173 rushing yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Nipomo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 311 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Cabrillo waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Grizzlies, posting a 56-0 win. That looming 56-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Conquistadores yet this season.
Cabrillo's win came from a few key players Nipomo will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Gabriel Barraza, who threw for 213 yards and three TDs on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 32 yards. Andre Brisco helped out on the ground, rushing for 89 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Cabrillo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jacob Baraceros and Aiden Cabrera.
Cabrillo's record is now 6-1. As for Nipomo, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Evans and Brisco. Evans just won't slow down this season and has run in 8 touchdowns while averaging 154 rushing yards per game. Brisco has been a dominant force too and has run in 16 touchdowns while averaging 124 rushing yards per game.
Nipomo was able to grind out a solid victory over Cabrillo in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 21-13. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
