The Fox Tech Buffaloes will be home for the holidays to greet the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Fox Tech's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They fell 65-58 to Carrizo Springs. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
The losing side was boosted by Amaryon Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. He scored a full 48.3% of Fox Tech's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Reyes, who scored two points along with seven assists and five steals.
Even though they lost, Fox Tech were working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Nixon-Smiley came up short against Poth on Tuesday and fell 55-47. While losing is never fun, Nixon-Smiley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 996th, while Poth is ranked 179th).
Fox Tech has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Nixon-Smiley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
Fox Tech strolled past Nixon-Smiley in their previous matchup back in December of 2017 by a score of 52-33. Will Fox Tech repeat their success, or does Nixon-Smiley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
