Richland County will head out to take on Hutsonville/Palestine at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Richland County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Richland County is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Robinson just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Maroons by a score of 2-1. The contest marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Hutsonville/Palestine came out on top against Martinsville on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run seventh inning. The Tigers blew past the Bluestreaks 8-0. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Bluestreaks recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Hayden Monan was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Monan was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Hutsonville/Palestine let Ayla Cook and Brynn Griffin run wild. Cook went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Griffin went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Gracie Alumbaugh, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.
Richland County's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Hutsonville/Palestine, their record is now 10-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Richland County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Hutsonville/Palestine struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Richland County came out on top in a nail-biter against Hutsonville/Palestine in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Richland County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
