The Gaston Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by Sand Rock on the road and fell 61-26. While losing is never fun, Gaston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 398th, while the Wildcats are ranked 75th).
Sand Rock got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zoey Handy out in front who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Handy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Chloe Stephens, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Gaston dropped their record down to 4-18 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.7 points per game. As for Sand Rock, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 23-7.
Gaston does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sand Rock also has no future games currently scheduled.
