The Freedom Irish will square off against the Denmark Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Freedom 3.6, Denmark 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Thursday, Freedom made easy work of Waupaca and carried off a 14-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Irish, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Kailey Stordeur tossed a big game, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.
On the hitting side, Breanna Dallmann was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlee Smith, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Freedom hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Denmark posted their closest win since May 21, 2024 on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Clintonville. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.
Freedom has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Denmark, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Freedom took their win against Denmark when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Irish have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
