The Malvern Hornets had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They claimed a resounding 49-0 victory over East Canton on the road. The result was nothing new for Malvern, who have now won five games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Leading Malvern to victory were Jared Witherow and Dylan Phillips. Witherow threw for 197 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, while Phillips gained 129 total yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Runyon made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Malvern's win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.4 points per game. As for East Canton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.
Malvern will look to defend their home field on Friday against St. Paul at 7:00 p.m. East Canton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
