Two quarterbacks passed for more than 400 yards each Friday night as
Flower Mound (Texas) outlasted
Plano (Texas), 61-52.
Though their statistics were nearly dead even,
Paul Millard emerged with the victory. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound senior completed 30 of 47 passes for 406 yards and four touchdowns. Receiver
Josh Brake was the top beneficiary with 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
For the losing team,
Connor Michelsen, a 6-0, 180-pound senior, completed 22 of 38 passes for 408 yards and four touchdowns. His No. 1 target was
Brandon Hamilton, who accounted for 175 yards on four catches.
* After both teams combined for 47 first-quarter points,
Cottage Grove (Ore.) wound up with an 88-57 victory over Junction City (Ore.). Quarterback Britt Bay starred in a losing cause by passing for 474 yards and five touchdowns. Wide receiver Brandon Gerdes caught 12 passes for 297 yards and three touchdowns.

Crespi (Encino, Calif.) held off Taft (Woodland Hills, Calif.), 53-47, as senior
Kenny Stenhouse completed 17 of 23 passes for 364 yards and a school-record six touchdowns.
Devin Lucien caught six passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns, while
Mike Davison had four kickoff returns of 50 or more yards. For Taft,
Michael Bercovici completed 34 of 50 passes for 431 yards and five touchdowns.

Wes Bennett ran for 465 yards and four touchdowns during a 54-48 overtime loss to Sedgwick County (Julesburg, Colo.).

Cameron Kerkar kicked a 42-yard field goal as time elapsed to give
Beaverton (Ore.) a 26-23 victory over Sunset (Portland, Ore.). He earlier kicked field goals of 44, 36 and 34 yards.

Bacon Academy (Colchester, Conn.) overcame a 41-13 third-quarter deficit to nip Windham (Willimantic, Conn.), 48-47, and tie the biggest comeback in state history, according to the Hartford Courant. The 28-point comeback first was achieved by St. Joseph (Trumbull, Conn.) against Bassick (Bridgeport, Conn.) in 1974.

Creighton Prep (Omaha, Neb.) defeated Central (Omaha, Neb.), 30-25, before a crowd of 12,121 – the state’s largest prep football crowd in 21 years, according to the Omaha World Herald. It marked the 50th anniversary of a scoreless tie between the same rivals – often regarded as the greatest game in Nebraska history.

Castle (Kaneohe, Hawaii) quarterback Jaymason Lee completed 26 of 33 passes for 407 yards and three touchdowns during a 52-23 loss to unbeaten Kahuku (Hawaii).

Stevensville (Mont.) edged Hamilton (Mont.), 48-47, behind Caleb Vance, who passed for 382 yards and ran for 181, accounting for six touchdowns. Hamilton’s Josh Brenneman passed for 304 yards and ran for 186 while accounting for five touchdowns.

Cross country: Arcadia sets recordThe
Arcadia (Calif.) boys turned in a record course team time (77:09) to win the 32nd annual Clovis Invitational at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif., where the California Interscholastic Federation holds its state finals. The previous record of 77:22 was set by Mead (Spokane, Wash.) in 1993.
Arcadia's Ammar Moussa won the boys race in 14:51 over the storied 5,000-meter course. Catrina McAlister gave Arcadia a sweep by winning the girls title in 17:50.

Fayetteville-Manlius (Manlius, N.Y.) girls won the Eastern States title at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City. Senior Aisling Cuffe of
Cornwall Central (New Windsor, N.Y.) was the individual champion in 13:58.14.

Shaker (Latham, N.Y.) won the team title, while the individual crown went to Jim Rosa of
West Windsor-Plainsboro North (Plainsboro, N.J.) with a time of 12:28.

Plano (Texas) senior Rachel Johnson captured the girls title in 17:28.

Basketball: Joliet Catholic coach dies unexpectedlyCatholic Academy (Joliet, Ill.) boys basketball coach Jeremy Izzo died suddenly Friday at the age of 29, according to the Chicago Tribune. His stepfather, David Aniballi, told the Tribune it was suspected that Izzo had suffered from a complication from Marfan syndrome, which he was diagnosed with in eighth grade.

Swimming: Aston wins No. 400Cheshire (Conn.) girls swimming coach Ed Aston posted his 400th career victory during a 116-70 win over Glastonbury. His 36-year record now stands at 400-19-1. The Rams extended their national-record dual-meet winning streak to 271. They have not lost since 1986.

King Philip Regional (Wrentham, Mass.) senior Patrick Myers has made a commitment to the University of North Carolina. Myers is a five-star recruit, according to Swimming World Magazine.
Potpourri* Versatile Ed Lynch of
Simsbury (Conn.) recently posted his 1,000th coaching victory. He is golf’s all-time national winner with a record of 727-53-10. He got to 1,000 by winning a soccer match for a career record of 273-99-42. He has won 11 state titles in golf and three in soccer.

Connor Duffy, the two-way junior tackle at
Kingsway (Woolwich Township, N.J.). He had been unable to find size 22 football cleats, which would have caused him to miss the season. MaxPreps was one of the media outlets to advertise his need and he recently sent us an e-mail which explained that he has obtained a size 21 Nike which he "stretched" to a size 22.
He added, "I never thought having ginormous feet would get so much media attention, but everyone that helped our search is greatly appreciated. I would just like to say thank you again for your help."
