Basketball Recap: The Webb Schools Falls Despite Big Games from Jimmie Brown III and Josef Sharifi

The Webb Schools was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-49 heartbreaker at the hands of the Avalon Lancers. The Gauls were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lancers earlier this season, when they won 69-39.

The Webb Schools' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Josef Sharifi, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points in addition to seven boards and four steals, and Jimmie Brown III, who posted eight points along with 13 rebounds and five assists. That's the most steals Sharifi has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Andrew Paik, who scored 14 points.

The Webb Schools' loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Avalon, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-15.

The Webb Schools will face off against Rio Hondo Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Rio Hondo Prep will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something The Webb Schools surely won't give up without a fight. Avalon has already played their next match (against Newport Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
