Sadly, the Ellicott Thunderhawks are still looking for their first win of the season after 18 games. They took a 58-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Mary on Saturday. Ellicott was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as St. Mary's apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Several Thunderhawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tavon Flewellen, who scored 11 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Flewellen has scored all season. Another player making a difference was James Bourgeois, who scored 23 points.
St. Mary's got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Josh Padrnos out in front who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. It was the first time this season that Padrnos scored 15 or more points. Dantee Manuel was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Ellicott's loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-18. As for St. Mary's, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-11.
Ellicott will head out on the road to take on Lamar at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Mary's, they will be playing in front of their home fans against The Vanguard School at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in The Vanguard School's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matches.
