The West Clermont Wolves were the 61-26 winner over the Walnut Hills Eagles when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. West Clermont fell just short of Walnut Hills by a score of 37-35. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as West Clermont came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Walnut Hills is ranked 158th).
West Clermont's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paige Rodriguez, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds. The game was Rodriguez's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Schmidt, who scored six points along with three steals.
West Clermont's defeat ended a 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-2. As for Walnut Hills, they pushed their record up to 6-3 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
West Clermont will head out on the road to face off against Loveland at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Walnut Hills will be home for the holidays to greet Winton Woods at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
