Los Alamos is 8-2 against Capital since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Los Alamos is taking a road trip to take on Capital at 3:00 p.m. Los Alamos has given up an average of 12.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Los Alamos will head out to face Capital after giving up their first home loss of the season on Tuesday. Los Alamos came up short against Santa Fe, falling 14-3. The match marked the Hilltoppers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Abagail Deherrera made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Capital, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They put the hurt on Taos with a sharp 18-3 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Ava Martinez made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Cardenas was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since March 1st. Another player making a difference was Jadyn Padilla, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Capital always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Los Alamos' loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Capital, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Los Alamos hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .569. However, it's not like Capital struggles in that department as they've averaged .424. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Los Alamos skirted past Capital 6-5 when the teams last played back in March of 2022. Will Los Alamos repeat their success, or does Capital has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
