The Mid-Carolina Rebels typically have all the answers at home, but on Thursday the Ninety Six Wildcats proved too difficult a challenge. They snuck past the Rebels with a 39-34 victory. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 16 to 9 on the offensive boards, as Ninety Six did.
Janiyah Squire was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Coster, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Several Rebels players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Josie Shepherd, who scored nine points along with four steals. BreA Boyd was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Ninety Six is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Mid-Carolina, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-3.
Ninety Six will head out on the road to take on the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Abbeville comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Mid-Carolina, they will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Newberry will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 220th, while the Rebels are ranked 105th).
