It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Boardman had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They came out on top against the Howland Tigers by a score of 5-0. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Tori Strines was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Ellie Wymer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Jocelynn Torres also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Boardman's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Howland, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-10.
Looking ahead, Boardman will face off against Tallmadge on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. Howland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
