Pershing County and Incline are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will head out to face off against the Highlanders at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
North Tahoe hit Pershing County with a nine-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs came up short against the Lakers, falling 14-6. It was the first time this season that the Mustangs let down their fans at home.
Pershing County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Montes, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Another was Houston Allen, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Incline lost 15-3 to Oasis Academy on Saturday. The Highlanders have struggled against the Bighorns recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Leo Dukes was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Incline's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Pershing County, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 5-2.
Incline's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pershing County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. It's a different story for Incline, though, as they've only averaged .181. Will they be able to contain Pershing County's hitters?
Pershing County skirted past Incline 13-12 when the teams last played back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
