The Window Rock Fighting Scouts will square off against the Joseph City Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Window Rock has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Window Rock lost 17-1 to Chinle on Wednesday. The Fighting Scouts have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Window Rock saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Young, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Joseph City). Everything went their way against St. Michael on Tuesday as Joseph City made off with a 14-8 victory. The Wildcats not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 4, 2024.
Kase Fish made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Fish was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Beatty, who scored a run and stole Four bases. while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Justin Gardner, who went 3-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and one double.
Joseph City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Joseph City's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3. As for Window Rock, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Window Rock has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Joseph City struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Window Rock's way against Joseph City in their previous meeting back in February of 2020, as Window Rock made off with a 10-0 victory. Will Window Rock repeat their success, or does Joseph City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
