Baseball Recap: Apopka Beats East Ridge for Their Third Straight Victory

Apopka had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against the East Ridge Knights as they made off with a 12-2 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Blue Darters, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Connor McAfee looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Apopka let Nicolas Posluszny and Aiden Rieli run wild. Posluszny scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Rieli scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three hits gave Posluszny a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Timothy (Jez) Hamrick, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Apopka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive matchups.

Apopka pushed their record up to 11-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for East Ridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Apopka will be playing in front of their home fans against Wekiva at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Apopka's pitchers better be ready for this one: Wekiva has averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for East Ridge, they will head out to square off against Cornerstone Charter Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
