Softball Game Preview: Immaculate Heart Academy Blue Eagles vs. Academy of the Holy A Angels

Immaculate Heart Academy has gone a perfect 10-0 against Academy of the Holy A recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Blue Eagles will head out to face off against the Angels at 4:15 p.m. Immaculate Heart Academy will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

Immaculate Heart Academy proved they can win big on Friday (they won by eight) and on Sunday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Red Bank Catholic, sneaking past 3-2. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Blue Eagles have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Gabi Dellavolpe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Immaculate Heart Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlyn Mikros, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Mikros also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Leah English was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Academy of the Holy A fell victim to Ridgefield Park and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Scarlets, falling 7-0.

Immaculate Heart Academy pushed their record up to 4-0-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Academy of the Holy A, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Immaculate Heart Academy took their victory against Academy of the Holy A in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
