The Flagler Panthers fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Arickaree Bison on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 47-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bison. It was the first time this season that Flagler let down their fans at home.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lexi Witt, who scored eight points along with five steals and two blocks. Jaylie Stone was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Arickaree was led to victory by JANIYA SMITH and RAEYA SCHROCK. SMITH scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while SCHROCK scored 19 points along with six rebounds and five steals. SMITH also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was LILLY MONAT, who scored three points along with three steals.
Flagler's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-4. As for Arickaree, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-4.
Flagler will be playing in front of their home fans against Byers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Byers is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Arickaree, they will head out on the road to square off against Bethune at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Bethune focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
