York and Gray-New Gloucester are an even 3-3 against one another since September of 2021, but not for long. The Wildcats will head out to face off against the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. York will be strutting in after a win while Gray-New Gloucester will be coming in after a defeat.
York is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Washington Academy, who was ranked third at the time (York was ranked second). The Wildcats came out on top against the Raiders by a score of 3-1 on Thursday.
York had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 26-24, 25-20, 29-27.

York's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Evie Martin led the charge by getting 20 kills, 13 digs, four blocks, and two aces. Those four blocks gave Martin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jillian Holland, who had 15 kills, 15 digs, four blocks, and two aces.
Meanwhile, Gray-New Gloucester came up short against Wells last Thursday, falling 3-0. The Patriots have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
The final score came out to 25-15, 25-20, 25-16.
York's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. As for Gray-New Gloucester, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
York took their win against Gray-New Gloucester in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
