Swansboro hasn't had much luck against West Carteret recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Swansboro will challenge West Carteret at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Swansboro beat White Oak 10-7. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won eight in a row.
Josh Scott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Swansboro is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Scott was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Patrick Hollifield was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Landen Jenkins also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Carteret). They came out on top against Croatan by a score of 10-6 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.
Like Swansboro, West Carteret also got a great game from a two-way player: Cameron Pavy. On the mound, he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Pavy was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Lincoln Strump was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.
West Carteret kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Croatan only managed seven hits.
The victory got Swansboro back to even at 4-4. As for West Carteret, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Swansboro has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like West Carteret struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Swansboro skirted past West Carteret 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Swansboro since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
