The St. George's Gryphons will be playing at home against the Evangelical Christian Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
St. George's' recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Northpoint Christian on the road and fell 56-13. While losing is never fun, St. George's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 268th in Tennessee, while Northpoint Christian is ranked 70th in Mississippi).
Meanwhile, Evangelical Christian had to suffer through a rough 49-14 loss at the hands of University School of Jackson.
Despite the loss, Evangelical Christian had strong showings from Emmanuel Moss, who rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown, and William Cheairs, who picked up 126 receiving yards and a touchdown. Moss' longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards.
St. George's' loss was their 11th straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Davidson Academy and 6-1 Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.1% over those games). As for Evangelical Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
St. George's couldn't quite finish off Evangelical Christian when the teams last played back in October of 2022 and fell 10-7. Will St. George's have more luck at home instead of on the road?
