Softball Recap: Bunkie Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

Bunkie barely beat Rayne the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers never let the Wolves get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won three matches in a row.

The result came thanks to Aubree Ducote's shutout, as she gave up just a hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Layken Middlebrooks and Andi Bettevy did most of the damage at the plate: Middlebrooks went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Bettevy went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was Middlebrooks' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ava Webb, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Bunkie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Bunkie pushed their record up to 15-11 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Rayne, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14-1 record this season.

Bunkie will face off against St. Joseph's - Plaucheville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rayne, they and Iota will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
