Baseball Recap: Topeka Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Topeka can now relate to. They fell 9-5 to the Heights Falcons on Thursday. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 4-1 to the Falcons when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Zen Woods and Eli Duenes did some serious damage despite the final result: Woods went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI, while Duenes went 2-for-3 with two runs. Topeka is 2-1 when Duenes posts two or more runs, but 6-11-4 otherwise.

Topeka has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12-4 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Heights, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Topeka does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Heights, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 11-1 loss against Lawrence Free State on the 22nd.
