Caldwell is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season on Saturday. They lost 11-3 to South Fremont.
Caldwell saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cody Felton, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. That RBI was Felton's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Bishop Kelly can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. Everything went their way against Blackfoot as Bishop Kelly made off with an 11-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Knights needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Jaxson Brady made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Brady was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Zach Wright was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Luca Quilici, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Bishop Kelly always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Blackfoot only posted an OBP of .250.
Bishop Kelly's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Caldwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Caldwell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bishop Kelly struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Caldwell suffered a grim 14-8 defeat to Bishop Kelly when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Caldwell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
