Freedom has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge The Gainesville Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two weeks ago, Freedom slipped by Unity Reed 7-6.
Meanwhile, Gainesville beat Osbourn 20-8 on Friday. Given Gainesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Osbourn is ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gainesville can attribute much of their success to Colton Kilmer, who threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns. Aidan McClafferty did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 160 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Freedom's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 3-5. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Unity Reed, Osbourn Park, and Osbourn. As for Gainesville, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Everything came up roses for Freedom against Gainesville when the teams last played back in September of 2022 as the squad secured a 47-13 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Freedom since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
