Macon-East Montgomery Academy is 2-8 against Edgewood Academy since December of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Knights will be home for the holidays to greet the Wildcats at 3:00 p.m.
Macon-East Montgomery Academy's tournament run continued when they took on Morgan Academy on Friday. The Knights fell 45-41 to the Senators. That's two games in a row now that the Knights have lost by exactly four points.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Mollie Ross, who posted 13 points. Jamya Powell was another key player, putting up eight points and 19 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Edgewood Academy had to endure a ten-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They claimed a resounding 61-33 win over Banks Academy. The Wildcats not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since January 31st (when they won 62-4).
Edgewood Academy found their leader in sophomore Jadah Townsend, who dropped a double-double with 28 points and 14 assists. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which Townsend has scored at least a third of the Wildcats' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Claire Kelley, who shot 78% from the field on her way to 14 points and five boards.
Edgewood Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Macon-East Montgomery Academy now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Edgewood Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 2-10.
Macon-East Montgomery Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Edgewood Academy in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 71-69. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Townsend, who almost dropped a triple-double with 38 points, nine assists, and ten steals.
