Middleburg and Columbia are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Broncos will head out on the road to face off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Middleburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Middleburg needed a bit of extra time to put away Nease. They had just enough and edged out the Panthers 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Broncos have posted since March 4th.
Middleburg's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kerra Clarida, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Another was KK Hagan, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Branford typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Columbia proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Buccaneers. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Harleigh Price made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Columbia let Kimber Long and Brooklyn White run wild. Long went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double, while White scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Luisa Taylor was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Columbia lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Middleburg has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-7.
Middleburg beat Columbia 4-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
