The Potomac Wolverines will be playing at home against the Oxon Hill Clippers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Potomac is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Their defense stepped up to hand Bladensburg a 63-0 shutout last Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won three in a row.
Among those leading the charge was Malik Iracks, who rushed for 74 yards and one TD.
Potomac didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Daveyonn Green-Vailes and Xavion Daniels. Potomac received some extra help from Braylyn Harrod, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Oxon Hill had no problem doing just that on Friday. They really took it to the Titans for the full four quarters, racking up a 72-6 victory. With the Clippers ahead 58-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Potomac better focus on containing Amir Elder and D'Eor Ray as the pair were huge in Oxon Hill's win. Elder threw for 311 yards and five touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, while Ray gained 168 total yards and four touchdowns. Elder's passing game has become a key predictor of Oxon Hill's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise. The Clippers also got help from Kane Wilkes, who showed off his sure hands for 98 receiving yards.
Oxon Hill was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 282 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Oxon Hill's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Tyler Diggs got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Potomac's record now sits at 7-2. As for Oxon Hill, their record is now 7-3.
Potomac didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Oxon Hill in their previous matchup back in September, but they still walked away with a 32-26 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Clippers' Kyre Grays, who rushed for 83 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries, and also picked up 87 receiving yards. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Wolverines still be able to contain Grays? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
