St. Viator moved up to 79 from 116 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in East Suburban Catholic. The Lions were able to make the jump by beating Washington 52-20.
Marist extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Notre Dame, 21-14. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
St. Viator's dynamic duo of Bob Calmeyn and Brent Piechocki proved tough for the Panthers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Calmeyn threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns and Piechocki had 36 yards receiving. Kevin Hammarlund helped St. Viator's passing attack out by catching one ball for 34 yards.
Ty Isaac was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 229 yards on 31 carries as Joliet Catholic Academy defeated Washington.
Zachary Niro made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Lions topped Jay Johnson's team. The 6-foot-3 defensive end forced one fumble and racked up 1.0 sack.
St. Viator's Calmeyn and John Balas have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading East Suburban Catholic in both passing and receiving yards. Calmeyn has thrown for 1079 yards this season, while Balas, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 23 catches for 365 yards. The Hilltoppers' Isaac leads the league in rushing yards with 799.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Marist takes on second place Benet Academy. Last week, Marist beat the Dons, while Benet Academy bested Nazareth Academy.
