The Delta Panthers fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Alamosa Mean Moose on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mean Moose by a score of 78-76. Delta has struggled against Alamosa recently, as their game on Saturday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Delta still got an impressive performance from Tucker Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 14 rebounds. Johnson scored a full 40.8% of Delta's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jp Gallegos was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with seven assists.
Alamosa found their leader in underclassman Victor Zepeda, who went 7 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 1 assists. Those 31 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Michael Motz, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Delta's loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-6. As for Alamosa, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Delta will be playing in front of their home fans against Steamboat Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Steamboat Springs focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Friday. As for Alamosa, they will head out on the road to face off against Ignacio at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
