The Middletown Islanders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 14th straight loss. They took a serious blow against North Smithfield, falling 57-24. Middletown has struggled against the Northmen recently, as their contest on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Francesca Goldman and Ella Bolano certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Goldman scored seven points along with two steals, while Bolano scored ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.
North Smithfield got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Trinity Spas out in front who scored four points along with seven steals and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Silveira, who scored 16 points.
Middletown dropped their record down to 1-14 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for North Smithfield, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Middletown will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Rhode Island (Pilgrim is ranked 31st, while the Islanders are ranked 43rd). As for North Smithfield, they will head out on the road to challenge the Mariners at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Narragansett is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
