Spanish River has gone a perfect 6-0 against American Heritage recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Sharks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Stallions at 6:30 p.m. Spanish River's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so American Heritage's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Spanish River barely beat West Boca Raton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Sharks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Bulls a 15-0 shutout on Wednesday. The game marked the Sharks' most dominant win of the season.
Abygail Gonzalez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabella Solomon, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Alaina George was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Spanish River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for American Heritage's offense. They came up short against Boca Raton on Tuesday, falling 16-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Stallions were not able to get on the board.
The victory snapped Spanish River's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-7 record. As for American Heritage, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.
American Heritage's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Spanish River has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for American Heritage, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Spanish River keep running through batters, or will the Stallions buck the trend?
Spanish River took their win against American Heritage in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 21-7 score. Will the Sharks repeat their success, or do the Stallions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
