The Central Academy Cougars were the 71-59 winner over the Valor Preparatory Academy Owls when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Central Academy took a 61-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Valor Preparatory Academy on Friday. Central Academy's loss continues a unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Central Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zach Mcdowell. Despite the final result, he scored 30 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. Mcdowell scored a full 55.6% of Central Academy's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Drew Butler was another key contributor, scoring no points along with 13 blocks and six rebounds.
It was another big night for Bishop Witherspoon, who scored 37 points for Valor Preparatory Academy. The contest was Witherspoon's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Johnathan Lee, who scored 12 points.
Central Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Valor Preparatory Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing West Stanly the next time they take the court. Valor Preparatory Academy will host West Stanly at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Central Academy will head out to face them at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
