Boyne City got a massive performance out of Sadie Bush, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Bush a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josie LaCombe, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Boyne City lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Gaylord came out on top against Petoskey on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run fifth inning. The Blue Devils took their game against the Northmen 11-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Devils.
Nora Bethuy was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Jenna Sircely and Makayla Kozlowski did most of the damage at the plate: Sircely went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Kozlowski got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Aubrey Jones was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Gaylord pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Boyne City, their record now sits at 8-12.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Boyne City hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Gaylord struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Boyne City suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Gaylord in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Can the Ramblers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
