Basketball Recap: Za'miya Bynum Key Part of a Team Effort in Stallions Win

Queen's Grant won the last time they faced Jackson Day and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Queen's Grant Stallions managed a 44-40 victory over the Jackson Day Mariners. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Stallions.

Queen's Grant got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Za'Miya Bynum out in front who went 13 for 21 en route to 29 points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds. Bynum's evening made it 16 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Allison Avalos also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Several Mariners players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Courtney Ashford, who posted nine points along with six boards and four steals. Ashford has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. Laylah Toscano was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists.

Queen's Grant's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 51.8 points. As for Jackson Day, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Queen's Grant will venture away from home to challenge Sugar Creek Charter at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Queen's Grant is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.8 points per game this season. As for Jackson Day, they are taking a road trip to square off against Piedmont Community Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
