Whitley County extended the longest winning streak in 5A District 8 this week by beating Perry County Central, 47-28. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Whitley County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,072 from 3,236. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 47-28 victory over the Commodores last week.
Perry County Central's dynamic duo of Austin Pray and Nathan Pray proved tough for Jim Black's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Pray threw for 165 yards and three touchdowns and Pray had 109 yards receiving. Tyler Fugate helped Perry County Central's passing attack out by catching one ball for 27 yards.
Jake Middleton was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 265 yards as Harlan County fell to the Colonels. Kainer Caudill also contributed to the rushing game with 76 yards on the ground.
The Commodores' Pray and Pray have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Pray has thrown for 1266 yards this season, while Pray, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 27 catches for 595 yards. The Black Bears' Middleton leads the league in rushing yards with 1350.
The top two teams in 5A District 8 will face off this week when first place Whitley County takes on second place Harlan County. Whitley County bested Perry County Central last week, while Harlan County defeated Letcher County Central.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Tom Larkey's team takes on the Colonels. The Black Bears have allowed 121 points this season, while Whitley County has given up 126. Harlan County allowed 0 points last week as it topped the Cougars.
The Black Bears led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Letcher County Central. Middleton in the win.
