The Burlingame Bearcats will head out on the road to face off against the West Elk Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Burlingame is ranked 27th, while West Elk is ranked 26th).
Burlingame fell victim to Lyndon's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Tigers at home and fell 48-0. Having soared to a lofty 42 points in the game before, Burlingame couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, West Elk had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 48 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They breezed by Yates Center at home to the tune of 71-0. The result was nothing new for West Elk, who have now won seven games by 34 points or more so far this season.
It was another big night for Creyo Koop, who rushed for 33 yards and two touchdowns. Koop is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last eight games he's played. Garett Usry made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Burlingame's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for West Elk, their win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1.
Everything went Burlingame's way against West Elk in their previous meeting back in November of 2017 as Burlingame made off with a 63-42 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was West Elk's Cade Miller, who rushed for 98 yards and five touchdowns, and also threw for 231 yards and a touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Burlingame to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
