After losing to the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons the last time they met, the Patel Trailblazers decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Patel walked away with a 44-34 victory over St. Petersburg Catholic on Wednesday.
Patel was led to victory by ADRIANA ELLIS and SIMARKAE MCLEAN. ELLIS scored three points along with 14 steals and five rebounds, while MCLEAN scored 32 points along with two steals. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which MCLEAN has scored at least a third of Patel's points.
Despite the defeat, St. Petersburg Catholic saw an underclassman step up: Naomi Thompson scored 13 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Elise Graham, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Patel pushed their record up to 8-6 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Patel will take on Calvary Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Calvary Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Patel in Florida (Calvary Christian is ranked 128th, while Patel is ranked 321st). As for St. Petersburg Catholic, they will play host again and welcome Indian Rocks Christian, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Indian Rocks Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
